Product Overview

The ROSS Controls Bantam Series is a family of compact modular pressure regulators covering port sizes of 1/8", 1/4", and 3/8" with a maximum flow capacity of 23 scfm (651 l/min). The modular design allows the Bantam to connect directly to other Bantam Series FRL components (filters, lubricators) without additional fittings or pipe nipples, forming a complete air preparation assembly.

Two construction options are available: piston and diaphragm. Piston construction is optimized for maximum air flow through the compact Bantam body. Diaphragm construction provides faster pressure response and greater sensitivity to downstream pressure fluctuations, making it better suited for applications where regulated pressure must track load changes quickly.

Both piston and diaphragm models are self-relieving as standard. Non-relieving configurations are available by consulting ROSS. Port connection options include threaded NPT or G (BSPP) ports in 1/8" and 1/4" sizes, and quick-connect tube fittings for 1/4" and 3/8" tubing or metric tubing (4 mm, 6 mm, 8 mm, 10 mm), providing installation flexibility across a wide range of circuit configurations.

The Bantam Series includes an integrated pressure gauge rated to 0 to 160 psig (0 to 11 bar) with 1/8" gauge ports on both the front and rear of the body for bidirectional gauge installation. A removable adjusting knob provides tamper resistance after commissioning. The acetal body construction and 40 to 125 degrees F ambient temperature rating make the Bantam Series suitable for standard industrial environments.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: What port sizes are available for the Bantam Series?

A: The Bantam Series is available in 1/8", 1/4", and 3/8" port sizes. Threaded NPT and G (BSPP) options are available in 1/8" and 1/4"; quick-connect tube fittings are available in 1/4" and 3/8" inch sizes and 4 mm through 10 mm metric sizes.

Q: What is the maximum flow capacity?

A: The Bantam Series has a maximum flow capacity of 23 scfm (651 l/min) at 100 psig (6.9 bar) inlet pressure.

Q: What is the maximum inlet pressure?

A: The maximum inlet pressure is 150 psig (10 bar). Exceeding this limit risks body damage and uncontrolled downstream pressure.

Q: What regulated pressure ranges are available?

A: Three regulated pressure ranges are available: 0 to 50 psig (0 to 3.4 bar), 0 to 100 psig (0 to 6.9 bar), and 0 to 125 psig (0 to 8.6 bar). Select the range appropriate for the downstream application.

Q: Should I choose piston or diaphragm construction?

A: Choose piston construction for maximum air flow through the compact Bantam body when flow capacity is the primary design criterion. Choose diaphragm construction when faster downstream pressure response and greater sensitivity to pressure fluctuations are required.

Q: Is the Bantam Series self-relieving?

A: Yes. The standard Bantam Series is self-relieving, automatically exhausting excess downstream pressure when the set point is reduced. Non-relieving configurations are available by consulting ROSS Controls.

Q: Does the Bantam include a pressure gauge?

A: Yes. A pressure gauge rated 0 to 160 psig (0 to 11 bar) is included with each regulator. The body has 1/8" gauge ports on both the front and rear, allowing the gauge to be installed on either side.

Q: How does the tamper-resistant knob work?

A: The adjustment knob is removable. After reaching the desired set point, pull the knob off the stem to prevent unauthorized adjustment. Reinstall the knob when adjustment is required.

Q: Can the Bantam be panel mounted?

A: Yes. The regulator body has a 1-3/16 inch (30 mm) panel mounting hole, allowing direct installation through a panel cutout without a separate mounting bracket.

Q: How does modular mounting work?

A: Bantam Series FRL components connect side-by-side using internal porting in the modular interface faces. No pipe nipples or intermediate fittings are needed between components. Consult ROSS for modular assembly hardware and port block options.

Q: What body material is used?

A: The body, dome, and knob are all constructed from acetal. Seals are nitrile. This material combination is suitable for standard industrial environments with compressed air as the flow medium.

Q: Are G (BSPP) thread models available?

A: Yes. G thread models are available by prefixing the model number with 'C' (e.g., C5B01C0010 for a 1/8" G piston regulator at 0 to 100 psig).

Q: What is the ambient temperature range?

A: The Bantam Series is rated for ambient temperatures from 40 to 125 degrees F (4 to 52 degrees C), suitable for standard industrial indoor environments.

Q: Can the Bantam be used with quick-connect metric tube fittings?

A: Yes. Bantam Series models are available with metric push-to-connect tube fittings in 4 mm, 6 mm, 8 mm, and 10 mm sizes for compatibility with European pneumatic circuit standards.

Installation & Maintenance Guidelines

  • Confirm upstream air filtration is installed before the Bantam Series regulator. For modular assemblies, install a Bantam filter module upstream of the regulator module.
  • Install with the inlet port connected to the supply side and the outlet port connected to the downstream circuit. Do not reverse flow direction through the regulator.
  • For threaded port connections, apply thread sealant only to the male thread. Keep sealant away from the first two threads to prevent contamination of internal passages.
  • For quick-connect tube fittings, insert tubing fully until it bottoms against the internal stop. Verify engagement by pulling the tube before pressurizing.
  • Set the outlet pressure before connecting downstream equipment by rotating the adjustment knob clockwise to increase pressure and counterclockwise to decrease.
  • Monitor the integrated gauge during adjustment to confirm the outlet pressure matches the desired set point.
  • Remove the adjustment knob after final set point confirmation if tamper resistance is required for the installation.
  • Verify self-relieving operation by reducing the set point and confirming downstream pressure decreases without requiring a separate exhaust valve.
  • Do not exceed 150 psig (10 bar) inlet pressure. Exceeding this limit may damage the body or cause uncontrolled downstream pressure.
  • For panel mounting, use a 1-3/16 inch (30 mm) hole and appropriate panel mounting hardware. Ensure the gauge is accessible from the normal maintenance position.
  • In modular assemblies, ensure all modular interface connections are secure and sealed before pressurizing the assembly.
  • Inspect all connections for leaks after initial pressurization using soapy water or an appropriate leak detection solution.
