W66 Series ISO 15407 Valves – Installation & Operating Instructions

Overview

The ROSS Controls® W66 Series comprises compact, high-performance spool-and-sleeve pneumatic valves conforming to the ISO 15407 interface standard. Available in Size 0 (26 mm) and Size 00 (18 mm), these valves are designed for space-constrained applications where reliable directional control must be delivered within minimal footprint. V450R (A10326), issued September 2023, supersedes the August 2007 revision.

Built by ROSS Controls – a company with over 100 years of fluid power engineering experience since its founding in 1921 – the W66 Series features solenoid pilot and pressure pilot variants for 5-port, 2-position and 5-port, 3-position (various center configurations) directional control. The ISO 15407 interface ensures interchangeability and manifold mounting flexibility across the Size 0 and Size 00 platforms.

Applications span semiconductor equipment, medical devices, laboratory automation, and compact machine tools where small valve envelope size combined with reliable performance is essential. Contact ROSS Controls at 1-800-GET-ROSS or visit www.rosscontrols.com for full product and service support.

Key Features

Compact ISO 15407 Form Factor – Size 0 and Size 00

The W66 Series is offered in two compact ISO 15407 sizes: Size 0 at 26 mm and Size 00 at 18 mm body width. These compact dimensions enable dense manifold configurations in equipment with limited panel space. The ISO 15407 interface provides a standardized mounting footprint compatible with sub-bases from multiple manufacturers, simplifying retrofit and expansion of existing systems.

Dual and Single Solenoid Configurations

W66 Series valves are available in single and double solenoid pilot configurations, as well as single and dual pressure pilot (remote air signal) configurations. Operator 12 connects Port 1 to Port 2 when energized; operator 14 connects Port 1 to Port 4. Double solenoid and double remote air pilot 2-position valves should be mounted with the spool axis in the horizontal plane for optimal performance.

Factory Pre-Lubricated Design

W66 Series valves are factory pre-lubricated at time of manufacture. If in-service lubrication is required, use a paraffin-based mineral oil with 150 to 200 SSU viscosity at 100°F. Do not use synthetic, reconstituted, alcohol-containing, or detergent-additive oils, as these can damage internal seals and spool-and-sleeve components.

Multiple Center Configuration Options

3-position W66 Series valves are available with Power Center, Closed Center, and Open Center configurations. The port arrangement for 5-port, 2-position and 5-port, 3-position valves follows the ISO 15407 standard port identification scheme. Valves may also be used for single-outlet (3-way) operation by plugging one outlet port.

Applications

Semiconductor and Electronics Manufacturing

W66 Series Size 00 (18 mm) valves are ideal for semiconductor wafer handling, PCB assembly equipment, and other electronics manufacturing applications where valve size constraints are critical. The compact ISO 15407 footprint enables multi-valve manifold assemblies within the space-limited enclosures typical of semiconductor process equipment.

Medical Devices and Laboratory Automation

The precision spool-and-sleeve construction of the W66 Series delivers the low-leakage, repeatable performance required in medical device assembly and laboratory automation. The factory pre-lubricated design minimizes maintenance intervention in cleanroom-adjacent environments where contamination control is important.

Safety and Compliance Standards

The W66 Series Installation Instructions include explicit safety warnings. WARNING: Disconnect electrical supply before installation, servicing, or conversion. Disconnect air supply and depressurize all lines connected to this product before installation, servicing, or conversion. Operate only within manufacturer-specified pressure, temperature, and other conditions.

Installation, service, and conversion must be performed by knowledgeable personnel who understand pneumatic products. After installation or service, connect air and electrical supplies and test the product for proper function and leakage. If audible leakage is present or the product does not operate properly, do not put into use. Warnings and specifications on the product must not be covered by paint or other coatings.

The product is intended for use in general purpose compressed air systems only. FAILURE OR IMPROPER SELECTION OR IMPROPER USE OF THE PRODUCTS AND/OR SYSTEMS DESCRIBED HEREIN CAN CAUSE DEATH, PERSONAL INJURY AND PROPERTY DAMAGE. The user is solely responsible for making the final selection of products and systems and assuring that all performance, safety, and warning requirements are met.

Installation and Setup Guide

Safety Pre-Checks

Before beginning installation, disconnect electrical supply (if applicable) and disconnect and depressurize all air lines connected to the valve. Ensure installation is performed only by personnel experienced in pneumatic equipment installation. Verify that the operating conditions (pressure, temperature, media) are within the manufacturer specifications.

Port Connections and Mounting Orientation

Connect air lines to ports according to their ISO 15407 identification. Port 1 is Inlet; Ports 2 and 4 are Outlets; Ports 3 and 5 are Exhausts. Pilot ports 12 and 14 are used for remote or external pilot connections. For double solenoid and double remote air pilot 2-position valves, mount so that the spool axis is in the horizontal plane.

Post-Installation Testing

After installation or conversion, connect air and electrical supplies and test the product for proper function and absence of leakage. If any audible leakage is detected, or if the valve does not operate properly, do not put into service – investigate and correct the problem before resuming operation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are the two sizes available in the W66 Series?

A: The W66 Series is available in Size 0 (26 mm body width) and Size 00 (18 mm body width). Both sizes conform to the ISO 15407 interface standard.

Q: What lubricant should be used if lubricating W66 valves in service?

A: Use a paraffin-based mineral oil with 150 to 200 SSU viscosity at 100°F. Do not use synthetic, reconstituted, alcohol-containing, or detergent-additive oils, as these can damage internal seals and valve components.

Q: What standard voltages are available for W66 solenoid models?

A: W66 Series solenoid pilot valves are available in 24 volts DC and 120 volts AC configurations.

Q: Which ports are used for external pilot or remote pilot on the W66 Series?
