Double Valves FAQ

FAQs for DM2 valves (click here).

What is the difference between the E-P, L-G and the D-S monitor valves?

  • The E-P monitor valve is equipped with pneumatic sensing and electric reset.
  • The L-G monitor valve is equipped with pneumatic sensing and pneumatic reset.
  • The D-S monitor valve is designed for electronic sensing and is reset by closing a dry switch.

What does it mean if air is escaping out the back of the L-G monitor?
The valve is locked out and must be reset with 60 plus psig air.

Why do I need a monitored valve on my press?
OSHA requires every pneumatically operated clutch and brake power press to have a double valve with a monitor to inhibit further operation of the press due to a valve failure.

Why does my L-G monitor repair kit have a spool in it without seals?
The monitor spool (with seals installed) is shipped inside a compression tube to keep the seals compressed. This makes it much easier to install the spool into the monitor without damaging the seals. Insert the spool/tube assembly into the opening in the side of the monitor, then push the spool out of the shipping tube directly into the monitor. NOTE: The compression tube looks like a spool and is too large to be inserted fully into the monitor. Do not remove the spool from the tube until you have inserted the end of the tube into the L-G monitor body. Once the spool is installed in the monitor, you may dispose of the compression tube.

L-G monitor spool in kit too big for opening in monitor.
The actual monitor spool is shipped inside a compression tube which looks like a spool without seals and is too big to be fully inserted into the monitor. See previous question and answer above - "Why does my L-G monitor repair kit have a spool in it without seals?"

How do I reset my D-S monitor? Do I energize the terminals like I do for my E-P style valves?
The reset process for a valve with D-S monitor is different than on an E-P monitor valve. To reset a D-S monitor valve, simply close the contacts between terminals G and H.

Why does my double valve monitor lock-out?
A monitor lock-out occurs when the main piston assemblies inside the valve body fail to move at the same time. The reason could be air-line contamination, over lubrication, burned out solenoid or actual internal parts failure. Please see the valve service bulletin for more information about your particular style of valve. Your local distributor can send you the bulletin or call ROSS Customer Service at 800-438-7677 or 706-356-3708.
